Just looking in the mirror will make you a brave man

I had a near death experience today.

It was pretty fucking scary.

I was on 295, driving along, in reasonably steady traffic, in the center lane, when some girl tried to merge (from the right) into my car. I hit the brakes and tried to go left, but a guy was passing on that side and from there it was mostly spinning and zigzagging and fishtailing until I ended up in the far left lane facing oncoming traffic, and then another spin into the grass. Being in a somewhat safe position, I scooted further from the road, put my car in park, and leaned my head back against my seat surveying my surroundings through slit eyes.

Along comes High School Girl, stumbling through the ditch, wringing her hands, for whom I threw open the door and and shouted "Did you not see me?! Really?" and then I backed down from my panther stance to ask if she was alright because she already looked embarassed and on the verge of tears. She mumbled that she was and asked if my car was okay. It was, and hers too. The cops showed up ten seconds later and we traded information, and while the first officer (who looked like the guy who played the priest in Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet) was filling out forms, a black car pulled up on the other side of the guard rail and two guys jumped out and came over and confirmed my story to the officer, and then popped his head in my window and asked if I was alright. He offered to exchange information, too, but since none of us had a single scratch or dent, I told him it was okay, and he suggested I play the lottery this evening.

I think I might.

Weekend Aquirements

I think I've more than made up for missed posts, but because I'm attempting to go home early this week, I'll knock another one out (just to make myself feel better).
I bought the espresso cups and dishes at an antique shop on highway 98, leaving Destin. Grapes for scale.
The plant came from a pot shop outside Watercolor and Seaside. Not exactly sure what is it, but appears to be a tough little thing, which is good what with Tallahassee's abusive temperatures. And, not to toot my own horn, but I think the plant is worth clicking for enlargement.

A couple movies I am looking forward to....

Funny Games and Son of Ranbow, which incidentally, are being released on the same date. Movie night?

Ali Baba's

Went to Ali Baba's the other night to catch up with Lois, and coincidentally, ran into one of my favorite people ever- Dustin!
I took his class last semester and it ranked among my favorites (if it was in fact not the favorite.)
Anyhow, it's a rather deer-in-headlights photo because I figured if I took any amount of time to make a photograph I wouldn't get one at all.

Bag project

I warned, in the first post, that I am a great admirer of both Kris Atomic and the Maditi Likes journals. Since the last post showed reverence for K.A., it's only fair that I show the influence of M.L. over me. Not too long ago, she posted people's faces alongside the contents of their bags. I thought this was a fun idea, because it can be applied to any individual and each would yield different results.
So, here, the first of my own shots with that idea in mind.

Breaking promises already.

I made a blog last week promising daily posts- which isn't inconceivable because I'm constantly on the computer for school (I wish I weren't), and constantly seeking distraction....
then I went camping for the weekend.
In any case, I am quite sad to say that I did not take the Rebel camping. I was worried about possible crushing or temperature problems, so I took the Orbit....which broke upon shot three. So now I'm going to try rewinding the film and pulling it out for use in the nikon, I think, because I find the prospect of losing 36 shots to a toy camera quite sad.
Even more sad is that there are no mementos of the weekend.
Well, onward soldier- The above shots are from Kris Atomic's blog, which can be viewed at krisatomic.com/blog.
I'll be uploading some things from recent project momentarily.

Post Deux: A birthday, clarity, and bright colors

This marks my goal of one photo per day (though not necessarily by me; As indicated by the previous post, I will also be adding photos which hold interest for me and which I feel may provide the impetus for future projects. Credit will be given appropriately).
The above photo is simply among the most recent batch of photos I have taken and I feel it is among my better- which, I suppose, is as it should be. Better all the time, right?

Numero Uno

I decided I needed a blog for a number of reasons. First, I am far too scattered to manage a paper journal, and am notorious for starting and losing or forgetting handwritten records almost at the same instance I've begun keeping them. Secondly, I am aiming to dust off my tripod and take real photos; Not the snappy postcards I've been prone to lately. This, therefore, may also serve as a venue for constructive criticism, and to record ideas for artistic projects, or to post inspirational images (which will no doubt be 90% composed of the journals of Krisatomic and Maditi Likes). Lastly, there's ventilation. I think we could all use a little air sometimes.

Things I will try to avoid (but I make no promises, as this is my journal, damnit, mine):
Melodrama
Song Lyrics
Cryptic Messages to Unknowns
and
Pretention
